R.I.P. SZ Viewer A1

I have decided to stop releasing the Android version of SZ Viewer (SZ Viewer A1) to the public after February 2025.

Currently, I distribute SZ Viewer A1 only through Google Play.  However, I don't want to verify my developer account as required by Google because it asks for too much personal information to be displayed to users. So my developer account will be removed after 27 February 2025.

At the same time, I have no plans to distribute SZ Viewer A1 as public APK files.

I might release a version of SZ Viewer A1 (in Google Play) before the deadline. But I am not sure. I'm very tired of SZ Viewer after 11 years: I spent a lot of time and resources with no profit and no prospects. It's time to get rid of the dead weight.

  1. Hi, first of all thanks a lot for the 11 years of effort. It was appreciated by many Suzuki owners. Do you have any plans to posting the source code of SZ Viewer A1 to GitHub or open sourcing the project. May be the community would continue wit the project.

Thanks for Application and your much job!
Happy new year, friend! Get all dreams! Happiness and Love for You!

  4. Hi Anton,

First, thank you for the awesome application and blog. You're probably an inspiration for many people, despite any analytics you can't imagine the number of ideas, thoughts, and approaches you've shared with people. I discovered your blog more than ten years ago, because I have been using JB23 all this time, but I'm stuck here not just because of that. There is so much more than just car interest. And I have read every post for years via RSS.

I'm not a big user of SZ Viewer, but I really liked it, I liked the process, liked how you managed it, liked everything related to what you do. This is a unique situation where one person truly loved the process, making a public, non-commercial application used by thousands of users. Your application is mentioned across the internet, in many products and manuals. Your name is published in many forums, you're an authority and the maker of the Jimny 3rd generation Bible. Even if you stop blogging, you will be remembered by many users who will recall your name when doing ordinary household items, thinking "I remember how Anton Malykh did this and gave some advice about that".

Regarding your application, I know that developing non-commercial apps often seems like a thankless task, often due to difficult users, and sometimes we encounter troubles with implementation or don't understand certain things, like Google policies.

But what do you think about open-sourcing the application? There are many public open-source applications that respect the original author, and this could breathe new life into the application. If you're worried that someone might steal it, I don't think that will happen. Some parts of the application might be used for commercial purposes, but the benefit to the community would be higher, and everyone would know that you are the creator and fully responsible for this. It would be in keeping with your blog's traditions of sharing everything with the public.

These are just my wishes, so please forgive me if you're not happy with this suggestion.
This post is just a way of saying "Thank you". I've never posted anything here in the comments before.

  9. You helped me a lot with the DDIS engine in summer of 2024 and it's sad to read this "news" (I was not on Internet in the last months), but I understand what you say about Google personal information requiring and time to spend of something that would be not monetizing. Have you every thinked about a PayPal solution, a sort of donation?

  10. First of all, I would like to express my deepest thanks to you for developing the application for Suzuki cars. Unfortunately, I only found out about the SZ Viewer app in January 2025, and it’s truly unfortunate that it was discontinued in February 2025.

I’ve tried many different applications that support Suzuki cars, but most failed to connect — except for your app, “SZ Viewer.” I understand how you feel about being very tired of SZ Viewer after 11 years: you spent a lot of time and resources with no profit and no prospects. But you have helped millions of people in need.

I believe that with better marketing and publicity to reach more users, SZ Viewer could grow and become profitable.

I truly understand how you feel, and my hope is that what you have created (SZ Viewer) over the past 11 years can still be developed so that the time you’ve invested can be rewarded with better profit for you.

Once again, thank you — from all of us Suzuki car fans.
